Gill Holden started smoking with friends at just 13 years old. For three decades and at the height of her addiction, the 48-year-old homeless support worker and mum-of-two from Bolton smoked up to 20 cigarettes a day.
In recent years, Gill successfully cut down to between 10-20 menthol cigarettes a week, but she never managed to cut out smoking altogether – until now.
Having discovered vaping e-liquid as an alternative to smoking, coupled with a steely determination to kick the habit, Gill is now celebrating being smoke-free for over a year.
An asthmatic, she’s even taken to running and has recently completed her first 10K.
It was a weekend trip with smoker friends in November 2016 that finally gave Gill the push she needed to quit smoking.
She says, “I used an e-cigarette whenever they smoked and I managed to go all weekend without smoking. And I have not had a cigarette since. I can only say that for me, vaping has helped me to finally kick the habit of a lifetime. It’s got to be worth a try.”
